Writing Contest

We know YALLWEST readers are tomorrow’s YALLWEST authors—

show us what you’ve got by joining the 2019 Teen Writing Contest!

This year’s prompt is: “The Four Elements: Water, Fire, Earth, Air”.

Your short story or poem must feature one or more of these elements.

Winners will receive a signed book, a moleskin notebook and a YW swag bag.

Maximum 2,000 words.

Must be in 6th-12th grade to enter.

One entry per person.

Submissions will be judged by the Teen Ambassadors and a panel of YALLWEST authors.

Awards will be presented on stage at YALLWEST, but festival attendance is not required. Prizes will be mailed to winners who can not attend.

The contest deadline is Friday, April 26th.

Fan Art Contest

Great art inspires great art—

show us how YALLWEST authors’ books have inspired you by entering the 2019 Teen Fan Art Contest!

This year’s prompt is: “Fantastical Nature”.

Your work should include elements of nature, real or mythical—

fairies, elves, & magic bean stocks are fair game).

Winners will receive a signed book, a sketchbook and a YW swag bag.

Work must be inspired by a book by an author on the YALLWEST lineup.

Must be in 6th-12th grade to enter.

All media welcome- please submit photos or scans of non-digital work.

Submissions will be judged by the Teen Ambassadors and a panel of YALLWEST authors.

Awards will be presented on stage at YALLWEST, but festival attendance is not required. Prizes will be mailed to winners who can not attend.

The contest deadline has been extended to Monday, April 29th.

The idea is that “There is Fire in her eyes, Waves in her hair, Air in her lung, and Earth attached to her heart. She is more powerful and vibrant than you know.”
